Porvair Filtration Group has been named ‘Large Business Subcontractor of the Year’ by the largest construction and civil engineering company in the United States.
Porvair - a global producer of high performance filtration and separation technology - was recognised by Bechtel Inc. at its prestigious annual Supply Chain Recognition Awards, held in Washington DC earlier this month.
Virginia-based Porvair was selected for the honor from more than 1,400 worldwide suppliers and subcontractors for its “outstanding contribution and commitment to the Bechtel team”.
Bechtel singled out Porvair’s work on developing a first-of-a-kind radial flow HEPA filter capable of meeting the requirements of both ASME AG-1 code and Vitrification Plant environmental conditions.
The annual awards recognize the subcontractors and suppliers who supported Bechtel‘s Nuclear, Security & Environmental (NS&E) global business unit operations during 2016.
Companies are evaluated by Bechtel across multiple areas, including overall performance, the ability to deliver quality services/supplies on time, to work collaboratively to meet milestones, and meeting or exceeding project expectations in aspects of safety, performance, technical expertise, and environmental compliance.
Since 2013, Porvair’s engineering team has worked extensively to develop its high-strength HEPA radial filter element for use in the United States Department of Energy’s Hanford Waste Treatment Plant (WTP), currently under construction by Bechtel.
During the development process, the team introduced several new technologies, one of which is now under patent review.
Last year, Porvair achieved the distinction of being the only supplier to develop a filter that could meet the stringent technical challenges of the ASME AG-1 specification. Bechtel regarded this as one of the most challenging technical barriers to completing the WTP project.
Porvair US President, Kevin Nelson, said: “We always work to exceed expectations and deliver continuous improvement across all of our operations, and the Large Business Subcontractor award is a fantastic testament to our diligent, hard-working staff as we look to further strengthen our relationship with Bechtel in 2017.
“We had many outstanding individuals involved on this, helping to deliver strong results while fostering an enduring relationship with Bechtel.
“It says much for Porvair that we are working so closely with one of the most respected global engineering, construction and project management companies.”
He added: “From the inception of the relationship, Porvair has looked to match Bechtel’s relentless drive for the delivery of landmark projects that create long-term progress.
“Since 1898, Bechtel has completed more than 25,000 extraordinary projects across 160 countries on all seven continents and Porvair is proud to be part of that legacy.”
