Senator Collins Attends Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Porvair Filtration Group in Caribou

1 Sep 2020

Caribou, ME — U.S. Senator Susan Collins participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Porvair Filtration Group Caribou Division to celebrate the recent renovations funded in part through a $180,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).  This funding, which was secured with support from the City of Caribou, was used to remodel an attached building with new exterior siding, new and up-to-code electrical wiring and plumbing; to purchase a new oven and titanium oxide furnace to improve the manufacturing process; and to rebuild new offices and the Collins Conference Room, which is named after Senator Collins.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Porvair Filtration employees, Caribou City Staff and Council Members, Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce Staff and Board Members, and other local leaders.

“These facility and equipment upgrades demonstrate that Porvair is a global organization with a strong commitment to its host communities, here in Caribou and around the world.  The new manufacturing and engineering jobs this project creates will provide opportunity for the people of Aroostook County,” said Senator Collins.  “By rapidly shifting production to manufacture vital components for ventilators, clinical analyzers, and respirators, Porvair’s Caribou Division is on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19.”

“Growing up in Caribou, I saw every day the power of people working together.  This project is a shining example of that spirit, and I congratulate Porvair’s Caribou Division and this community,” Senator Collins continued.

As the Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee that funds the CDBG program, Senator Collins successfully championed efforts to increase federal funding for this valuable program to more than $3.4 billion.

Porvair supplies filtration equipment for the aerospace, nuclear, energy, process and bioscience industries.  The Caribou facility has nearly 50 employees that specialize in the sintering of metal powder of stainless steel, bronze, and exotic alloys into discs, washers, cups, and tubes.
